Portuguese immigrant communities published Portuguese language newspapers and periodicals as a way to share information and to keep their Portuguese identity strong. By documenting the births, deaths and daily achievements of the members of their community, these newspapers can be particularly valuable as a genealogical resource. Many of these periodicals continue publishing today.
