Québec: French Culture, First Nations & Folk Music

Digital Resources

Our Little Quebec Cousin. 1919. Library of Congress Digital Collections.

Digital resources at the Library of Congress are growing daily. Below are digital resources not only from the Library of Congress, but from institutions in Québec. They are categorized into four groups:

  • Academic & Cultural Institutions
  • Digitized Primary & Secondary Sources
  • First Nations & Indigenous People
  • Québécois Folk & Contemporary Music.

The first section lists portals to government websites, museums, universities, archives and libraries. The second section provides direct access to the sources in the form of books, newspapers, encyclopedia entries, and journal articles as well as to a wealth of images. Most of these digitized images are available from the BAnQ numérique (Bibliothèque Nationale, Archives Nationales, Grande Bibliothèque). There you will find downloadable images of newspapers, postcards, posters, photographs, illustrations, drawings and etchings.

The third and fourth sections contain websites, portals and primary and secondary sources on the topics of Indigenous Peoples and Québécois Music respectively. The third section contains collections of Native and Indigenous materials, festivals and annual events, cultural centers and online resources on contemporary issues such as Québec's residential school system and violence against indigenous women.

The fourth and last section contains links to finding aids to collections of folk music at the Library of Congress, music festivals of all genres, and educational resources and online articles on folk and contemporary music in Québec.
