Rachel Carson: A Resource Guide

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Publications

In 1935 Carson obtained a part-time position with the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries due to her extensive writings in marine life and biology. She was given the responsibility of creating a series of seven minute, marine life focused radio programs called "Romance under the Waters."

In part due to the success of these programs Carson was appointed as a junior aquatic biologist with the Bureau of Fisheries and became one of only two women then employed with the Bureau at a professional level at the time.
