A special highlight is the Calendar of Religious Petitions presented to the General Assembly, 1774-1802, which contains petitions on such topics as the opposition to church taxation, the emancipation of slaves, and the organization and incorporation of churches. There are also records from over 300 churches dating from the 17th to the 20th century, primarily from the state of Virginia.
