The Rhode Island Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing Rhode Island’s history. The site contains online galleries, genealogy resources, an online catalog, and links to related Web sites.

The John Carter Brown Library and the Redwood Library and Athenaeum are Rhode Island institutions with distinct, but complementary, collections. To lay the foundation for a Rhode Island History Digital Collection the two libraries are collaborating on a project to scan the unique documents representing the earliest chapters of the region.

The Rhode Island State Archives is charged with preserving and maintaining the permanent records of state government. The collection of historical records, dating from 1638 to the present. Research guides and finding aids to the collections are available through the online catalog, which includes administrative histories of state agencies, descriptions of their records in the holdings, and subject indices. The State Archives also features exhibits that are free and open to the public, in addition to online virtual exhibits.
