Business directories can be used by genealogists to find information about people living in Romania from the years before telephone books were available, or when telephones were not yet commonly available. Such directories can also be used by historians studying a certain time period or a region of Romania.

The information in these business directories are organized either by city or county, or by type of organization and type of services.

Besides directories, newspapers are also good resources for finding information on Romanian companies. There are databases that include digitized newspapers, and the Library of Congress also has many Romanian newspapers in print. The type of information that can be found in articles and advertisements includes: images of businesses, information about executives, products, etc. Depending on the historical period, general information, occasional financial information, and articles on company operations such as strikes, factory closures, major changes, can also be found in newspapers. Full-text databases with several years of coverage can also be used for historical research, and one such database that includes hundreds of Romanian periodicals in various languages is ADT.

The subscription resources marked with a padlock  are available to researchers on-site at the Library of Congress.  If you are unable to visit the Library, you may be able to access these resources through your local public or academic library.
