The following image resources cover a wide range of topics that don't neatly fit into the previous sections of this guide. Here you will find resources that have a multitude of digital images that are within the public domain, and therefore, free of copyright restrictions. The majority of these resources are from United States government sources, but a few are not and these resources are denoted with an external link icon. While these are not strictly government sites, they may provide images that have been uploaded by government agencies.
CIA: The World Factbook
In addition to information on countries around the world, including demographic, economic, and environmental information, the CIA World Factbook contains visual media such as maps and photographs that are freely accessible.
Digital Public Library of America External
Provides book, document, and image resources from a variety of different topics. Searches can be performed by keyword and results further filtered.
Flickr: The Commons External
Flickr Commons project is a collective of national and international institutions that have uploaded publicly held photography collections onto the Flickr Commons website. Images found in Flickr Commons have no known copyright restrictions and many government agencies have accounts where science images can be found.

Works in these collections touch upon almost every realm of human endeavor: science, art, invention, government and political struggle, and the recording of history.” Not all images in the collection are in the public domain. This site provides free images on a variety of topics. Images are keyword searchable or you can browse by topic.
World Digital Library External
A collection of thousands of items from institutions all over the globe. You can choose from list, gallery, or map to show from where the items originate.
