Serbian Newspapers in the Library of Congress

Serbian Newspapers in English

Most former-Yugoslav newspapers have not been translated into English. However, Summary of the Yugoslav Press by the Joint Translation Service at the U.S. and U.K embassies in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, published 1949-1972, has translations and abstracts in English of major Yugoslav communist newspapers. This publication was meant for distribution only among certain western embassies in Yugoslavia. Most content is from Borba and Politika, but there are also some articles or headlines from the Tanjug news agency and from other newspapers from the various former Yugoslav republics.

Two databases described below contain news from or about Serbia in English. Both FBIS Daily Reports and Annexes (Foreign Broadcast Information Service) and World News Connection were products of the U.S. intelligence community, providing global news in English translation for U.S. government analysts.
