This page contains a selected bibliography of newspapers and periodicals in Chinese, Japanese, and English that were published during the Sino-Japanese War of 1937-1945, or in the years immediately preceding or following it. All titles link to fuller bibliographic information in the Library of Congress Online Catalog. Links to additional online content are included when available.

In principle, all newly catalogued Chinese materials follow the standards described in the ALA-LC Romanization Tables (Chinese) [PDF, 224KB]. Some older materials, however, were catalogued according to earlier romanization standards and their catalog records have not yet been revised to the new standards. In 1940, the pro-Japanese collaborationist regime in Nanking launched Zhong yang dao bao (Chung yang tao pao; 中央導報; Central Herald), which was directly under the leadership of Nanking’s propaganda department. As one of the major serial publications of the pro-Japanese government, Chung yang tao pao was intended to propagate Nanking’s “national policies and practices.” It was closed when Japan surrendered in the fall of 1945. Researchers will find this title useful for the study of the collaborationist movement in China during World War II.
