Just prior to the 2017 solar eclipse, Dr. C. Alex Young, of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, spoke about the science and wonder of total solar eclipses. He explained the celestial mechanics of the eclipse, viewing opportunities and how NASA planned to study the sun and Earth during this rare event on August 21, 2017.

Dr. James Green, NASA's Chief Scientist spoke about the shadow techniques used in research on eclipses, occultations and transits. He provided examples drawn from research done on the 2017 solar eclipse.
