Presented here are published, printed materials about Stars and Stripes. Newspaper editions are organized by conflict (American Civil War to the Vietnam War), and by place of publication and/or area of operations. Books are organized by time period from the American Civil War (1861-1865), World War I (1914-1918), through World War II (1939-1945), the Korean War (1950-1953) and the Vietnam War (1961-1975).

Various editions of the European Stars and Stripes published in Germany, and the Pacific Stars and Stripes published primarily in Tokyo, are available at the Library of Congress through the mid-1980s. The U.S. editions of the National Tribune are available through December 1985. Daily editions of Stars and Stripes were published in Pfungstadt ( near Frankfurt) and Altdorf (near Nuremberg) until 1949 when the newspaper moved to its current location at Greisheim (near Darmstadt). A Germany edition has been published for U.S. forces in Europe since April 7, 1945. The following daily editions are held by the Library of Congress.

Pacific editions of Stars and Stripes have been published in Tokyo since October 3, 1945 and are available at the Library of Congress. In addition to the main edition, which continues to be distributed to U.S. forces throughout the Pacific, the Library has incomplete collections of two regional editions: one that is distributed to United Nations Forces in Korea, and an Okinawa edition. Feature articles and syndicated columns appear in all editions; the regional editions also include news from and for the troops in their respective areas. A China edition of Stars and Stripes was published in Shanghai during 1945 and 1946 and is also available at the Library of Congress, as well as a collection of Far East Weekly Review, the news magazine published in Tokyo by Stars and Stripes.
