This resource guide compiles links to digital materials related to Jefferson such as letters, broadsides, government documents, books, and images that are available throughout the Library of Congress website. In addition, it provides links to external websites focusing on Jefferson and a bibliography containing selected works for both general and younger readers.

This exhibition focuses on the extraordinary legacy of Thomas Jefferson--founding father, farmer, architect, inventor, slaveholder, book collector, scholar, diplomat, and the third president of the United States. It traces Jefferson's intellectual development from his earliest days in the Piedmont to an ever-expanding realm of influence in republican Virginia, the American Revolutionary government, the creation of the American nation, and the revolution in individual rights in America and the world.

The papers of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), diplomat, architect, scientist, and third president of the United States, held in the Library of Congress Manuscript Division, consist of approximately 25,000 items, making it the largest collection of original Jefferson documents in the world. Dating from the early 1760s through his death in 1826, the Thomas Jefferson Papers consist mainly of his correspondence, but they also include his drafts of the Declaration of Independence, drafts of Virginia laws; his fragmentary autobiography; the small memorandum books he used to record his spending; the pages on which for many years he daily recorded the weather; many charts, lists, tables, and drawings recording his scientific and other observations; notes; maps; recipes; ciphers; locks of hair; wool samples; and more.

A searchable database of Thomas Jefferson's many libraries, including the Shadwell Library, books inherited from George Wythe, books acquired while in Europe, and the Monticello Library sold to Congress in 1815.

Thomas Jefferson’s Libraries is a database of the books Jefferson owned, desired to own, knew about or recommended to others at different times in his life. The project, based at Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia, aims to compile and make freely available to the scholarly community and members of the public information on Jefferson’s libraries and his books. In late 2008, this project became part of the Libraries of Early America project on LibraryThing. Data from this project is being incorporated into Thomas Jefferson's library on LibraryThing.
