323 | New-Hampshire gazette, or, State journal, and general advertiser. | Weekly | June 16, 1778 | June 4, 1781 | Continuation of The Freeman's journal, or, New- Hampshire gazette. On June 16, 1778, Daniel Fowle and his brother Zechariah began to print a newspaper for both Portsmouth and Exeter, the only difference being their imprints, which read: "Portsmouth, Printed by D. Fowle"; or "Exeter, Printed by Z. Fowle". Sometimes the imprints were omitted, making it difficult to distinguish between issues. The last issue published for both towns was that of Feb. 16, 1779. For Exeter issues, see above under Exeter, New-Hampshire gazette, or, State journal, and general advertiser. The issue of Feb. 23, 1779, was thus published solely for Portsmouth. This continued until May 25, 1779. For a brief period from Feb. 19-Apr. 1, Apr. 15, 1780, the title was: New-Hampshire gazette. On June 1, 1779, the paper was apparently again printed for both Portsmouth and Exeter, without any imprint, and this continued until June 4, 1781. After this time, the Portsmouth title became New-Hampshire gazette, State journal and general advertiser, the new title starting with the issue of June 11, 1781. | Daniel Fowle. |
