Field recordings of seventy children's folk songs of the American Virgin Islands compiled by Karen S. Ellis in 1979. Recorded from elementary school children in St. Croix from about 1976-1978.

Audio recording of two Dutch Creole stories translated into English by Gilbert A. Sprauve of the College of the Virgin Islands, and then re-told in Dutch Creole by Alice Stevens (or Stephens) of St. John, Virgin Islands; includes an introduction by Gilbert Sprauve and a short interview with Alice Stevens, who was born in St. John in 1898, about learning of Dutch Creole as a child.

Collection of field recordings of music, stories, and interviews recorded by Mary Jane Soule from 1978 to 1985 on St. Croix and St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. The collection also includes dubs of circa 24 commercial LPs and 45s of Virgin Islands and other Caribbean music issued from the 1930s to 1970s of quelbe tunes and calypsos; and five 30-minute radio programs created from the materials in the collection produced and distributed via National Public Radio Satellite Program Development Fund in 1987. Audio recordings include scratch band music, quelbe songs, quadrilles, merengue and other dance music recorded at dances and parties; carisos, calypsos, creole songs, and other songs. In 1978-1979 Soule recorded Christmas serenading and various New Year's celebrations. Approximately half of the audio recordings are oral history interviews with elders who remember working on sugar plantations and the sugar workers' strike of 1915. They describe old time tea meetings, masquerade jigs, music making and instrument making, marriage traditions, wakes, supernatural beliefs, traditional medicine; and tell jumbie stories, Bru Nansi stories, and riddles.
