In October 2000, the U.S. Congress passed legislation establishing the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress. To mark this anniversary, VHP staff members selected the following collections as among their favorites and as representative of the diversity and depth of materials then available online. Some of these collections have been featured in the Experiencing War series. Each collection illuminates the wartime veteran experience in ways that are thoughtful and touching.
The Veterans History Project (VHP) of the American Folklife Center collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.
