Subject file includes circulars, minutes, and reports from the National Civic Federation and the Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense (Washington, D.C.).

Philanthropist, nurse, educator, and lecturer. Founded American Red Cross in 1881 and National First Aid Association of America in 1905. Papers relating to Barton's work to provide relief services during the Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War, the work of the American National Red Cross which she founded, the National First Aid Association of America, and the Washington Training School for Nurses in Washington, D.C.

During her career, Johnston divided her time between Washington, D.C., where as America's “court photographer” she photographed many prominent members of the capital's political, literary, diplomatic, and social community, and various localities throughout the United States and Europe, where she gathered research data, formed important contacts, and performed work on a contractual basis for newspapers, magazines, groups, and individuals.

Record book kept by Doolittle, superintendent of the Industrial School Georgetown, D.C., the National Freedman's Relief Association of the District of Columbia's school for the education of free African American women; New York National Freedman's Relief Association certificates of commission granting the employment of Doolittle as superintendent of the school in Georgetown, D.C.

Span the years 1933-1951 and focuses on her time as assistant treasurer of the United States. Appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Marion Glass Banister was the first woman to hold that position. Comprised primarily of correspondence, the papers also contain invitations and other memorabilia. A folder of publicity provides biographical information. Included in the correspondence is material relating to the Democratic National Committee and copies of her letters to her brother, Carter Glass, a United States senator from Virginia, and her sister, Meta Glass, president of Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia.
