The Quechua Collective of New York was created by a committee of like-minded individuals comprised of native Quechua speakers, heritage speakers, and students from the New York area. Its mission is to preserve and diffuse Quechua languages through workshops, cultural events, and educational programming. The Collective aims to support those Quechua speakers living in NYC and allow the language to be shared with the greater community and generations to come.

The Quechua Project champions the intergenerational survival of Quechua language within the Bolivian diaspora community of the D.C. metro area. Quipu desaparecido is a multisensory memorial to Indigenous people and to their ways of life, which the Spanish attempted to eradicate during colonial times. Alta Moda — literally ‘High Fashion’ (or ‘Haute Couture’ in Spanish) — is a series of portraits taken by Mario Testino showing Peruvians from the high mountains around Cusco wearing traditional Peruvian costume. Alta Moda was first exhibited at MATE – Museo Mario Testino in April 2013.

The CTTC works with ten weaving communities from the Cusco region. The weavers in each of these communities work hard to maintain unique ancestral styles, techniques, and designs. The center also runs an Education Department whose mission is to “provide an interactive space between weavers and the public through programs, investigations, and publications that promote the revaluation of ancestral textiles.”

Acclaimed throughout the world for their performances of traditional Andean melodies and dances, the musicians of New Inca Son are committed to cultivating understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures, especially among children and young people. The award-winning band is joined by scissors dancers Danzante Maldición and Supay Wayra. Traditionally danced in Quechua communities of south-central Peru, the Danza de Tijeras, or Scissors Dance, calls on dancers to outdo each other in acrobatic skill while striking scissors blades together to the changing rhythm and tempo of the music.
